The Grippenet/Covidnet project
The 14th season of the Grippenet/Covidnet study started on Monday 25 November 2024, continuing its role in the surveillance of acute respiratory infections, including influenza and COVID-19. This research initiative, based on the collection of data from the general population, is particularly valuable for collecting information on people who have symptoms but do not seek medical care, thus complementing traditional surveillance systems.
For the new season, Grippenet/Covidnet will be integrated into the SISP&EaU project (Integrative Surveillance in Primary Care and Wastewater). This initiative aims to optimise epidemic surveillance by identifying the best data sources for detecting and monitoring viral outbreaks. As part of this collaboration, weekly questionnaires are offered to participants living in the Alpes-Maritimes and Bas-Rhin departments throughout the year, beyond the usual winter period. These regions serve as study sites for collecting data on the circulation of respiratory viruses.
Also new this season is the addition of specific questions on protective measures taken during symptomatic episodes of acute respiratory infection, in partnership with the French Public Health Service (Santé publique France).
Finally, the project's visual identity has been completely redesigned and the dedicated participant website now includes a fun new feature: the ability to earn badges for participation.
