Virology

Virology is the science that studies the structure of viruses. In the field of epidemiology, it studies the mechanisms explaining the infection of the organism by viruses and the therapeutic strategies against these infections.

Presentation of the research field

In addition to the research activities in epidemiology of viral diseases carried out by several teams of the unit, the THERAVIR team develops research in clinical virology developing and evaluating laboratory methods. A specific expertise concerns the development of algorithms used in the care setting to guide the prescription of antiretroviral drugs according to the resistance profile in people living with HIV. Other virological themes are studied by this team, such as the risk of viro-induced cancer and the identification of therapeutic targets for new antivirals.
