Presentation of the research field
There are several definitions of chronic disease. According to the Haut Conseil de la Santé Publique, a chronic disease is characterized by: the presence of a pathological state of a physical, psychological or cognitive nature, destined to last, for a minimum of 3 months, or supposed to be so, and with a repercussion on daily life comprising at least one of the following 3 elements a functional limitation of activities or social participation, a dependence on a medication, a diet, a medical technology, an apparatus or a personal assistance and the need for medical or paramedical care or psychological assistance or a particular surveillance or prevention.
All the IPLESP teams have projects on chronic diseases. In particular, the PEPITES team, which involves many hospital-based clinicians, develops projects on the management and evaluation of therapies in chronic inflammatory or immunological diseases, or in particular groups of patients - such as the elderly. The CLEPIVIRE team is interested in chronic diseases caused by viral infections. Cancer is an important theme of the THERAVIR and ERES teams.
