Supporting Healthcare Workers’ Mental Health: The Critical Role of Social and Financial Support Post-Pandemic
One year after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, social support and perceived financial difficulties are significantly associated with moderate to severe depression among healthcare professionals—a new finding compared with earlier studies conducted during the first pandemic wave, which mainly focused on working conditions and exposure to COVID-19.
These results highlight the need to strengthen social and financial support for healthcare professionals during major health crises. This entails ensuring financial resources for caregivers, implementing proactive strategies for the prevention and management of psychosocial risks in the workplace, and adopting community-based approaches to mitigate loneliness and social isolation.
